Karolin Acunto Wins January 2021 Work Share “Competition” NATURAL LIGHT (See Photo)

Congrats to Karolin who wins this month’s contest with a dramatic afternoon portrait of our beloved local asset, “The River.”  (Need I actually name it?!)

It’s a beautiful shot. And also difficult to capture with all the differing light levels and subtle colors.  The skillful use of focus and composition puts you right there in the scene with her.  The complementary colors of the sky, water and wetlands take it over the top.  And did you notice the leading line formed by the houses on the left bank that lead your eye to the river’s vanishing point? Awesome.

Karolin is one of our newer members, having joined our club about a year and a half ago. She was new to digital photography and DSLRs and wanted to learn more about doing digital photography.

Karolin has been a regular at our monthly club-wide meetings, when we were meeting in person, and regularly attends our various club shoots.  She also frequently attends our work share meetings.  These are meetings where we each provide some of our photographs and discuss them giving feedback in order to improve everyone’s photography.

I’m sure that Karolin puts in her time studying and practicing on her own.  How can I be so sure?  I’ve seen some amazing shots also posted to our group Facebook page.

As for our work share “competitions,” Karolin is in it to win it as the saying goes.  In the past six months Karolin has won 3 out of 6 of these monthly contests.

But even more amazing than that, Karolin started winning them within only 4 months after joining our club:  And won 3 in a row in 2019-2020!

It’s been fun sharing in her evolving photographic journey in such a short period of time.

I’m sure that Karolin’s membership in the club is not responsible for all her improvement with her photography. And I’m sure I will have to bring my A-game if I am to have a chance in winning one of these contests with Karolin in them!
